Star Wars Unlimited Icons Starter Box: Contents and Your First Four Games

The Icons Starter Box gives two new players a way to learn together without building decks first. Start with Vader and Leia, add new rules between games, then use the final game to make your own choices.

Icons Starter Box Versus Booster Packs

  • Choose the Starter Box if two of you need decks and a guided first session. Its smaller starting decks reduce how many new cards you have to learn at once.
  • If you already know the game and want cards for a specific deck, the teaching sequence is less useful to you. Compare the exact cards you need before choosing a learning product just because it is new.
  • The official Icons product page gives November 20, 2026 as the release date. “2027 Edition” doesn’t mean you have to wait until 2027.

Icons Starter Box Four-Game Plan

Official four-game Icons learning sequence
GameNew stepWhat to notice
1Use a 30-card starting deck and its initial baseLearn setup, actions, phases and initiative before upgrades
2Open the first fixed pack and replace the starting baseCompare your new aspect access; introduce upgrades and duplicate unique units
3Open the second fixed packAdd Experience and Shield tokens, trait interactions and Hyperspace examples
4Use the third fixed pack to customizeChoose additions yourself and explain what you want each change to do
  • There are three fixed deckbuilding packs per player, so the two decks have six in total. Open each player’s packs in the instructed order between games.
  • Those six packs are not six random boosters. They introduce chosen cards and lessons, so opening everything before game one defeats the box’s gradual approach.
  • After the fourth game, the two ordinary Icons booster packs let you begin exploring random packs. The publisher doesn’t describe two boosters per player.
  • The 30-card starting lists are teaching decks. Don’t assume that the first-game configuration is a complete 50-card constructed deck.

Vader and Leia Icons Starting Decks

  • The official October 14 walkthrough pairs Darth Vader with Vigilance and Princess Leia with Cunning for the first game. Each starting deck has one deckbuilding aspect alongside Villainy or Heroism.
  • For game two, Vader replaces his base with KCM Mining Facility; Leia replaces hers with Echo Base. The changed base is part of the lesson, not a reason to buy another product.
  • The first fixed packs also add Resilient to Vader’s side and Academy Training to Leia’s. The second game is where upgrades first join these teaching decks.
  • The uniqueness rule limits you to one in-play unique card with the same name and subtitle. If you control a second copy, immediately defeat one of them; different subtitles can coexist, and your opponent can have their own copy.
  • If both of you want the same leader, agree to swap sides for another learning run. That gives you a useful comparison of the two starts without buying a second box solely for the first lesson.

Icons Deckbuilding After the Lessons

  • For the fourth game, begin by naming one thing you want to improve: defending your base, putting a unit into play earlier, or keeping a useful unit alive. Then compare additions that help that job. This is a learning exercise, not a tested competitive upgrade list.
  • The official preview names Jar Jar Binks and Jyn Erso as options for Leia, and IG-88 and Darth Sidious as options for Vader. Some cards come from earlier sets, including A Lawless Time, rather than only Icons.
  • Game three introduces trait-based interactions. Eighth Brother: Ill-Fated Escape lets you ready an Imperial unit when Eighth Brother is defeated. It is optional, and it is not an action you can repeat while Eighth Brother stays in play.
  • An Experience token adds +1 power and +1 HP. A Shield token instead prevents one instance of damage and is then defeated; it does not cancel a direct defeat effect.
  • Write down what you added and what you removed. If the revised deck feels worse, restore the earlier configuration and compare which job you lost.
  • Once you move beyond the teaching setup, use the official rules for the deck size, aspects and format you plan to play. The box’s first-game simplifications don’t replace event rules.

Icons Starter Box Buying Questions

  • Does every Icons product include Vader and Leia teaching decks? No. The single booster and Booster Card 4-Pack are different products; check that the package says Starter Box.
  • Are the fixed learning packs randomized? No. Fantasy Flight describes them as preset, non-randomized deckbuilding packs.
  • Does the box include six boosters? No. Six is the combined count of fixed learning packs; the two ordinary boosters are separate.
  • Is an Icons booster the same size as an ordinary set booster? The Icons product page says nine cards, approximately five common, two uncommon, one rare or legendary and one Hyperspace-foil. Don’t apply another set’s pack contents to it.
  • Is this a price-based worth-it verdict? No. This guide compares the learning experience and confirmed contents; it doesn’t quote a current delivered offer, value every card or promise competitive results.
  • If you want the currently released set instead of a future teaching box, compare the Homeworlds product and regional-release guide. Keep those dates separate from Icons.
