The evidence
17 new Hobbit cards appeared across 38 Standard decklists.
We used sourced lists dated August 7, 2026 through 2026-08-25. Undated MTGO league records use the publication date embedded in their official source URL. We matched those lists against new, non-reprint HOB and HOC cards, then checked each card's current Standard legality. One card counts once per submitted deck even if copies are split across source rows; copy totals and main-deck versus sideboard presence are tracked separately.
HOB cards entered Standard, Pioneer, Modern, Legacy, Vintage, and Commander. New HOC cards entered Commander, Legacy, and Vintage. SPG and HOC reprints are excluded because this series evaluates new cards. Current nonlegal cards are excluded even when an older decklist contains them.

Choose one — • Destroy target creature with flying. • Put a +1/+1 counter on target creature you control. It gains trample and hexproof until end of turn. (It can't be the target of spells or abilities your opponents control.)
The sample puts Warg Tactics in sideboards. Its two modes explain that flexibility: it can answer a flyer or protect one of your creatures while adding a counter and trample. That is a matchup tool, not evidence that every green deck should run it in the main deck. Check the expected opposing threats before choosing how many sideboard slots it deserves.
Tournament evidence: Warg Tactics appeared in 8 Standard decks across 2 separate events, with 14 total registered copies. 0 decks used it in the main deck and 8 used it in the sideboard. Example: Kritik in standard league 2026 08 2511015 on 2026-08-25.
Evidence strengthRepeated across multiple events.
Current rolePrimarily a sideboard or narrow-matchup card.

This spell can't be countered. Hexproof, haste
An uncounterable creature with haste and hexproof can pressure opponents who rely on countermagic and targeted removal. The recorded lists use it from the sideboard, which fits that specialized job. Hexproof does not stop sweepers or sacrifice effects, and the mana cost still has to fit the deck's post-board plan.
Tournament evidence: Gigantic Big Bear appeared in 4 Standard decks across one event, with 5 total registered copies. 0 decks used it in the main deck and 4 used it in the sideboard. Example: Capitano_CL, finishing 1 in Standard Challenge 32 on 2026-08-25.
Evidence strengthRepeated in one event; promising but narrow.
Current rolePrimarily a sideboard or narrow-matchup card.
