Loki, God of Mischief
A two-mana engine for decks with repeated targeting abilities.
Loki’s draw trigger cares about a player or permanent becoming the target of an ability you control, and it triggers only once each turn. Targeted spells are not enough. Legacy’s cheap artifacts and utility creatures can make that requirement part of an existing game plan rather than a separate package.
Our earlier review found seven Loki registrations at Oklahoma Land Run. Treat that as pre-ban evidence. The useful current check is OIegBaranov’s August 24 League list, which contains three main-deck Lokis and three Hawkeye’s Bows. August 24 Legacy League publication.
This is a reason to keep testing the engine, not to infer that it replaced Fantasticar across the metagame. Loki did not appear in the 32 published August 23 Showcase lists we checked. The recent League list and older tournament use support the shortlist, while the thin post-ban sample keeps confidence limited.
When tuning a Loki deck, count ways to trigger it on the opponent’s turn as well as your own. One cheap ability per turn can be enough. Adding several weak targeting cards solely to increase the trigger count is less attractive when Loki is removed.
