Is Omens of the Third Age Worth It? Pull Rates and Box Value

At the $52.93 market snapshot, our disclosed model puts practical box EV between $48.65 and $83.22. The reference-rate case lands at $67.97, but its median box is only $49.39 and 47.4% of simulated boxes clear the purchase price. OMN can have positive average value while a typical opening still loses.

At $52.93, OMN is a defensible gamble, not reliable profit.

The conservative scenario produces $48.65 in average practical value and a $33.93 median. The reference-rate scenario rises to $67.97 on average, yet the median remains $49.39 and only 47.4% of modeled boxes clear $52.93. The difference is the premium tail.

That makes the buying call more useful. Below roughly $52.93, one box is reasonable for the opening experience because the reference case has upside. It is not a dependable flip: even the reference median misses the box price, the conservative model breaks even only 31.9% of the time, and the biggest value comes from rates OMN does not publish.

What “published” means here: LSS calls its stated drop frequencies approximate averages across the full production run. It does not guarantee a Cold Foil in a particular display or case.

OMN has published slot frequencies, not a complete rarity map.

Each booster contains 16 cards. Across a 24-pack display, the published configuration describes 384 cards and the following average slot counts.

Official Omens of the Third Age pack frequencies and display equivalents
SlotPer packPer 24-pack displayWhat remains unknown
Cold Foil1 per 24 packs on average1 on averageReplaces a Basic card. The eligible card pool and named-card weights are not published.
Rainbow Foil1 per pack24 on averageThe rarity split within the Rainbow Foil slot is not published.

Common11 cards264 cardsPublished as an approximate production-average frequency.
Basic and flex2 cards48 cardsOne Basic plus one Basic, Expansion Slot, Legendary, Marvel, or Fabled card. The upgrade split is not published.

The sheet also lists a 251-card set, with 1 Fabled, 12 Marvel, 5 Legendary, 37 Majestic, 60 Rare, 134 Common, and 14 Basic entries. Those category figures are not a usable named-card denominator by themselves. Premium variants overlap the underlying card pool, and the sheet does not map every category to a specific slot weight.

A range is more honest than one fake-precise EV.

We ran 250,000 seeded box trials for each scenario using the September 4, 2026 TCGplayer market snapshot. Gross EV counts every low-value Common, Rare, and Basic at its tracked quote. Practical EV values cards under $1.00 at zero and applies a 75% realization rate to the rest for selling friction.

Optimistic$174.09$83.22$61.87$21.60 to $130.5655.8%

The gross numbers look spectacular because the model assigns $44.99 to 288 guaranteed Commons and Basics that are individually priced but difficult to sell. Practical EV removes that bulk illusion. In the reference case, average practical EV is $67.97, while the median is $49.39. That gap is the chase-card lottery in one line.

Our usable estimate: $48.65 to $83.22 practical EV per box, with $67.97 as the reference case. This is a scenario range, not an LSS-published OMN EV.

Every unpublished rate is visible and adjustable.

The center column uses recent official Flesh and Blood reference rates where they exist. The outer columns test slower and faster outcomes. OMN opening reports support roughly five to seven Majestics per display, but they are not a controlled print-run sample.

High Seas published a collective Marvel reference near one per 60 packs, but LSS also says Marvels can have different individual weights. We therefore isolate Baalghor instead of pretending it is one equally weighted Marvel among 17 priced OMN products.

The reference EV depends heavily on Marvels.

Reference scenario practical EV contributions
ComponentPractical EV contribution
Common and Basic bulk$0.00
Nonfoil Rare and Majestic slots$7.17
Rainbow Foil slot$15.62
Ordinary Cold Foil$7.44
Marvels other than Baalghor$24.53
Baalghor sensitivity$4.87
Cold Foil Legendary$5.35
Cold Foil Fabled$2.99

Marvels other than Baalghor contribute $24.53, and the Baalghor sensitivity contributes another $4.87. Together they account for $29.40, or 43.3% of reference practical EV. If OMN Marvels are materially rarer than the reference scenario, the conservative result is the safer number.

Six unanswered questions keep this a range instead of a true factory EV.

  • How often the mixed Rare or Majestic slot upgrades to Majestic.
  • How often the flex Basic slot becomes an Expansion Slot, Legendary, Marvel, or Fabled card.
  • Which rarities and treatments can occupy the Rainbow Foil slot, and at what weights.
  • Which cards can occupy the Cold Foil replacement, and whether their weights differ.
  • How OMN and preview cards carrying IAR collector numbers share the expansion distribution.
  • Whether display and case collation changes the probability implied by pack-level production averages.

The model does not hide those gaps. It gives each one a visible conservative, reference, or optimistic input, then shows how the decision changes. More trials reduce sampling noise. They do not turn an assumed Marvel rate into a published OMN fact.

Several exact printings cost more than the entire box.

That is exciting, but it also tells us the outcome distribution is highly skewed. The table uses the September 4, 2026 market snapshot and links to exact printing pages, so a regular card is not mistaken for its premium treatment.

Baalghor can swing the model without appearing often.

This is a sensitivity table, not a claim about actual collation. It asks what the $1,624.00 Baalghor would add to average gross box value at several hypothetical per-display probabilities.

Hypothetical Baalghor expected-value contribution by per-display probability
Hypothetical box chanceGross EV contributionOther cards needed to reach $52.93
0.1%$1.62$51.31
0.5%$8.12$44.81
1.0%$16.24$36.69
2.0%$32.48$20.45

At the reference model's hypothetical one-in-250-box rate, Baalghor contributes $6.50 in gross EV or $4.87 after the model's selling haircut. The real rate is not published, which is why it remains a separate sensitivity input.

Use your goal, not the biggest pull, to choose the product.

Draft or open with friends

Good fit below $52.93. The reference case has positive average value, and the pack cost is only $2.21.

Build Aurora, Oscilio, or Zyggy

Reasonable for one box. Opening builds breadth, but the reference median still misses the box price. Buy missing Majestics and equipment as singles.

Chase one Marvel or Fabled

Buy the single. The reference box reaches break-even only 47.4% of the time, and no exact treatment odds are published.

Flip for expected profit

Pass. The positive reference average depends on sparse premium hits, while the conservative practical EV is below the box price.

How this assessment was built.

Official OMN product configuration comes from the LSS sales sheet. Reference rates come from LSS's FAB 2.0 and recent Collector's Centre material, with limited OMN opening reports used only to widen the range. Prices come from the TCGTracking TCGplayer snapshot updated September 4, 2026.

The analytic EV and 250,000 seeded simulations per scenario use equal odds within each rarity and finish pool, except Baalghor. Practical value sets cards below $1.00 to zero and applies a 75% realization rate to the rest. This approximates fees, shipping discounts, and slippage, but excludes taxes and labor. The model is reproducible in scripts/model-omens-box-ev.js.

Every rate not printed for OMN appears in the assumption table. The scenario labels express uncertainty; they are not confidence intervals and do not claim that OMN uses another set's collation.
