- If you control no Jace planeswalker token, Empower creates one and adds the stated loyalty.

- It is not legendary, but Empower adds counters to an existing Jace instead of making another.
- Opponents can attack it, so the token may absorb damage instead of generating value.
- Every loyalty ability is negative. More Empower spells refill the same resource rather than building a self-sustaining engine.

Tam's Resistance
Two mana puts a permanent +1/+1 counter on up to one creature, gives vigilance, and Empowers Jace 4. Bogles and Azorius Heroic can use the targeting. Poison Storm can grow a threat while banking selection or a card. Turbo Fog can cast it without a target and protect the token.
Academic Ascent
The instant gives +2/+2 and flying, then Empowers Jace 2. Heroic values the target and evasion, but two loyalty cannot draw immediately. It is closer to a combat trick with delayed surveil than a card-advantage spell.
Campus Crier
A two-mana 3/1 can trade early, then exile itself from the graveyard for one mana to Empower Jace 2. Mono-white players are discussing it, but the body is fragile and the delayed token still needs help to draw.
Protege's Awakening
Four mana Empowers Jace 6 and draws a card. You can immediately spend three loyalty to draw again, leaving three loyalty behind. That is real cardboard, but four-mana sorceries face a high bar outside Turbo Fog and slow control.
